Vai

Vai or else the palm forest of Vai is one of the most popular attractions in Crete . It has one of the most beautiful and special places in the entire Mediterranean. Vai attracts every year thousands of tourists to the beautiful  palm  and the long sandy beach. Vai “discovered” by hippies who were persecuted in the early 70s from Matala and found in search of new shelter. In the 80’s Vai was declared a protected area and the beach bring the Blue Flag of the European Union . The reason for inclusion of the category of protected natural areas EIAV existence of endemic Cretan Phoenix . This particular palm is known from Minoan times and called Phoenix  Theophrastii.
